Ladies of Pebble Beach: A painting of deer by C.F. Lawrenson
Ladies of Pebble Beach

21.5″ x 31.5″

By C. F. Lawrenson

The summer of 2016 was extremely hot and dry. So dry in fact, that by late June/early July we could almost walk up the middle of this stream in many places. Holly and I have taken many evening walks along this stream (known as the Cowanesque River) that flows behind our house. When our daughters were young they used to refer to this particular area as “Pebble Beach”. We almost always saw doe here in the evening enjoying their favorite watering hole. The reddish color of their coats this time of year, seemed to be enhanced by the low light of the setting sun and the bright surrounding greens of late June.
